News Of The Day: Grandma's Boob Job

Well allrighty then. Link from Manuel and KTLA.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KTLA) -- An Orange County grandmother of 12 is making national headlines after getting breast implants at the age of 83.

Marie Kolstad, a full-time property manager who lives in Santa Ana, says she decided to get the $8,000 boob job last month because over the years, nature had taken its course on her 36-Cs.

"Your breasts go in one direction and your brain goes in another," she told the New York Times.

Kolstad says she's in good health and figured, "why not take advantage of it?"

She also says her mother lived a long life, and she's hoping to do the same.

Several national media outlets have since picked up Kolstad's story, citing a rise in so-called senior citizen plastic surgery.

In 2010, there were 84,685 surgical procedures among those over 65, according to the American Society for the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Of those, more than 26,000 were face-lifts, nearly 6,500 were liposuctions and some 2,400 were breast augmentations.

A plastic surgeon told ABC News that he'd rather operate on a healthy 70-to-75-year-old than an unhealthy 40-something patient.

  1. Well, if that's what she wants, more power to her, I suppose. Seems rather silly to me. Packing those girls into a good, supportive bra seems like a better solution to me, avoiding the pain, risk, and expense of surgery.

I think there ought to be a point in your life when you can just accept that you are aging and be comfortable with being who you are without feeling the need to impress anyone and trying to appear younger.

  2. I hope to go gracefully myself. I'm not too gray yet and nothing really to complain about otherwise. Ask me again in twenty years.

  3. Let's see, she's 83, and the boob job ran her $8k. If she lives another ten years that means she spent about $800 per year for perky sweater kittens.

My 72 year old uncle Art spends close to that on Rogaine and boner pills every year, so who's to judge on granny getting new jubblies?

  4. Note to self (again): Don't click on Cam's links after breakfast.

  5. Go Granny! She looks great & if she has the health & funds to do it, why not?

Wow Cam, you outdid yourself! o.O
