Links Of The Day

I'm away from the 'puter this afternoon, so here are some links to get you through the day and the weekend.

I spent a lot of time there, and so did you. Malls, circa 1990. (HowToBeARetronaut/Kate S.)

7 Basic Things You're Doing Wrong (Cracked.com)

50 things that will put you in a good mood instantly (Glamour.com)

Save the words!

Drugs make you ugly (MSNBC/The Movie Guru)

A what museum? (Jeff Emtman)

Hot chicks with douchebags (Afro Amber)

"Do you remember mix tapes? The owners of Mississippi Records—a vinyl-and-cassette-only record store located on North Mississippi Avenue in Portland, Oregon—most certainly do: They’ve put together the best mixes we’ve never seen (because you can get them only by visiting the store in person). But a Bay Area record label called Root Strata has digitized dozens of these tapes and distributed them (as free downloads) online. The series starts off with House of Broken Hearts—an hour-long collection of “Early R&B, Doo Wop, Rockabilly & Instrumentals”—and only gets better." (VeryShortList.com)

Stop making that ridiculous face in your photos. (Anti-Duckface/Frank and Amy M.)

Pick the perp. (Steve Hatchett)

  1. The 7 basic things we do wrong article was interesting. The breathing method we are supposed to use that they describe sounds like the way yoga instructors tell you to breathe.

The Save the Words site is cool!

The Glamour--50 things to lift your mood list has some good information on it, but I only went about 10 deep. I get really annoyed at those slideshow type "lists" that make you load a new page for every item on it. I just don't have the patience for them.

I think they should show every high school kid everywhere(wait, maybe you better make that elementary or middle school aged kid) the photos from the drugs make you ugly site. It should be mandatory viewing.

The museum in Iceland, um...a merman and an elf? Really?? hahaha! :D

  2. I'm evading my term paper in favor of LOTD, starting with the mall in the 1990s thing.

My god, what awful, awful hair. I don't remember it being that bad.

I know some people will say in twenty years we'll think the 2010s were also sort of ridiculous, but is there any decade where we can objectively say people just looked really, really stupid? (Or for that matter, really, really cool?)

Have you ever seen the anti-meth spots coming out of Montana? I think they're called "Meth: Not Even Once" and they have some of their stills up on the buses here in Honolulu. Powerful stuff.

I don't know if it would work with pot, but it sure works with meth. It also helps that, unlike pot, there aren't buddy movies and screwball comedies centered around lovable meth heads. Or are there?

WORD VERIFICATION: renup, what you do if you screw up your first pre-nup.

  4. Ha! That duckface thing is just about as bad as that sideways head tilt thing some women do when getting their picture taken.

  5. I'm not sure what it says about me that I'm really good at picking the perp. Perhaps I should consider a career change.

I think I saw myself in one of those mall photos. No lie.

  6. That get-happy list was the most saccharine and contrived piece of unholy dreck since the dawn of western civilization.

    Have a great day, everyone.
