10 "Back To The Future" Inventions That Came True

Like we needed more proof that BTTF was pure brilliance. From Popcrunch.

Doc Brown might be able to chuck a can of beer and a banana into a Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor to kick start the DeLorean, but you really can run a car on household waste. Using a gasifier, any solid, dry organic matter can essentially be converted into gaseous fuel.

While Marty is conniving to short change his employer before getting fired by his boss, Ito ‘Jitz’ Fujitsu, the screen throws up information such as the caller’s hobbies, favorite drinks, occupation and least favorite foods. While this might have seemed more game show than social media when the film was made 20 years ago, this is precisely the kind of thing we really do have today on applications such as Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. If you are unlucky enough to get sacked online, it will happen with friend recommendations and Farmville gifts floating in the background.

IMAX 3D, anyone? We might be safe from a holographic Jaws 19 jumping out of the screen, but with the new era of full color 3D we are now exposed to such horrors as Piranha 3-D. Furthermore, home sets will be able to carry 3D which won’t require glasses at some point in the very near future.

  1. All this progress and still no time travel. -sigh-

  2. "Back To The Future" is one of my all-time favorite movies. With so many of these inventions that have come true since the movie was out, it makes you wonder what products from today's futuristic movies will be a reality in another 20 or 30 years.

The cry, "I still want my flying car!" may someday become obsolete. :)

  3. I still remember when the director for "Back to the Future 2" gave an interview and he said hover boards were real, but parents groups didn't want to let kids play with them.

I was super pissed but found out later he was full of crap. Not sure which bugged me more, the fact that he lied, or hover boards weren't real.
