Original art by Scott C. from his website, The Great Showdowns. He writes:
Since the beginning of time, there has been struggle. The epic clash of being against being. Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Triceratops. Giant Squid vs. the Sperm Whale. The Circle vs. the Square. This is a chronicling of some of the greatest confrontations in FILM HISTORY. The greatest moments of melee. These are the GREAT SHOWDOWNS.

Without putting too much thought into it, I think I get 2 of these. Possibly 3. But we all know what a movie buff I am.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this post was meant for "Tyler Perry's List of the Day."
ReplyDelete:-)
Yeah maybe so...
ReplyDeleteHeh!
ReplyDeleteLove today's tag line, by the way. That's one of the 9 or so movies I've seen in my life. Where's Kate when we need her?
I like the way Spicoli's eyes have kind of a Picasso angle going there. HA! Seems appropriate for his character.
ReplyDeleteI think I recognized a few of the others--One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Rosemary's Baby, Carrie, and Tombstone.
I'm a bit of a movie geek so I think I know some of these.
ReplyDelete1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
3. Freaks
5. This is Spinal Tap
6. Saturday Night Fever
7. Rosemary's Baby
9. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
10. Carrie
11. Donnie Darko
12. Tombstone
That's all I got.
#4 is The Warriors.
ReplyDeleteNo idea on #8
The last one is Better Off Dead.
#8 is from "The King of Kong" a documentary about the highest scorers in Donkey Kong. (and a very good watch btw, even if you are not into video games)
ReplyDeleteOoh I heard about that movie. I like docs. Gotta add that to my Netflix queue. Thanks for the ID.
ReplyDeleteI second the recommendation for King of Kong - I, my husband and my 11YO son (who does like video games) watched it together and thought it rocked. I didn't identify that quote, but got several of the others. Fun post :-)
ReplyDeleteChiming in to further recommend The King of Kong. It's a great film and surprisingly both funny and moving. Of course I have to mention that the video game tournament takes place here in good ol' NH at FunSpot USA!
ReplyDeleteThanks RGR and everyone for chiming in! I love this artwork but am not very well versed in movies, so I'm glad to see what some of these were.
ReplyDeleteBev, one of my friends went to the FunSpot last year after seeing that movie and LOVED IT! I haven't seen the movie, but apparently he met the guy that had the record?
The last one is Better Off Dead. Those were awesome! Thanks for sharing #8 was the only one that stumped me. Man, I gotta stop watching so much TV.
ReplyDeleteI was on a documentary kick for awhile but after watching Capturing The Friedmans and The Bridge back to back, I had to take a break. Heavy shit, man. The Bridge was especially effed-up. Good flick, but... damn.
ReplyDeleteI think King of Kong is available for streaming on the 'Flix. It's been in my queue for a while. Maybe it's time to watch it.
ReplyDeleteC, I warned you about The Bridge. I haven't watched a doc since you talked about Dear Zachary. Again, a great movie but completely infuriating.
ReplyDeleteDear Zachary was great.
ReplyDeleteKing of Kong I just watched today. Awesome and filled with nerds (good and bad). I seriously wanted to punch some of them.
wendy, I think I'd already seen it when we talked. I ran across it one night on IFC and got sucked in. That movie stuck with me for a while. I saw the trailer for Dear Zachary. I can't watch that.
