I love how Mr. Mutton Chops/red bow tie/plaid jacket is stiff as a board and barely moves while Mr. Full Beard/dark suit/hunched shoulders is shaking and wiggling and dancing all over like he can't stand still. :D
Getting to see the whole band at the end there was quite a treat too.
Maybe it's lack of sleep but I can't stop laughing at this! There should be a warning label on Fresca that advises "Do not drink while watching polish music videos." That shit burns.
I think it's a song about somebody named Jozin creeping through the bog. But my Polish is rusty.
I thought it sounded Czech, but the last language I was working on was Hungarian, so I got really confused by the subtitles... I'm glad there's a language out there using all those zeds we've been neglecting.
The song is about an underwater monster that comes up and kidnaps the communist mayor's daughter. He then takes off in a crop dusting plane or something. I swear I'm not making this up. My husband is from Prague and he said that during the darkest days of communism, this man and his band (Ivan Mladek) gave them a lot of much needed comedy relief. He said that every kid had their songs memorized. Just another reason I'm grateful not to have lived through communism.
May I just say how delighted I am to be a regular reader of a blog that mixes such musical fabulousness with educational insights? Smart Fun. I love it!
This is soooo cool!! makes me smile every time :D i would love to see more of the strange instrument at the beginning. yes, the one where the player makes creepy faces ;) ideas of what it's called?
HA HA HA! Oh golly! That was great!

ReplyDeleteThat guy making funny noises into the giant kazoo reminded me of Jaws from Moonraker. Kinda creeped me out actually.
I suppose it's good to know Poland wasn't exempt from the ugliness on the 1970s.
ReplyDeleteThe subtitles did nothing for me. I might have picked up some dyslexia over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat's even odder is that it's actually in Czech but subtitled in Polish.

ReplyDeleteNice to see I'm not the only disturbing thing to come out of 1978. This almost makes up for Jonestown. Thanks Cary!
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to explain how happy this makes me. Two minutes and thirty-three seconds of pure joy.
