QOTD: I wish I were

I wish I were _______.

Go.

Music Video Of The Day

The other morning on the way to school, my 8yo daughter asked me to stop singing along with the radio so she could hear the song.

"What's the matter," I said, eyeing her in the rear view mirror. "You don't like my singing?"

She gave me that "Are you effing kidding me?" look, one she is quickly mastering. (Which is great, because I don't already get that look enough from her mother.)

They grow up so fast, don't they?

But she's always been like this, even back in pre-K. Except that in those days, she'd get stuck on one song and want to hear it over and over again. Every. Damn. Day. For like a week. And she wasn't quite three, so I'm talking Elmo and Raffi and other stuff that makes you want to drive the car off a bridge.

For a while there it was "Once Upon A Dream," the song from Sleeping Beauty.
"I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream..." You remember. Better than The Wiggles, but still, that shit gets old fast.

Of course I learned the words in no time -- hearing a song 959 times will do that -- so I started singing along with the Prince's part, which amused her. At first. But then I started doing it like Opera Man -- loud, way over the top, lots of hand gestures. I thought she would laugh. She did not.

"Stop, Daddy," she'd say, scowling. And I would. Until the next day.

Finally, on about day four:

"Stop, Daddy!"

"Stop what?" We were working on verbal skills, so I wanted her to explain herself.

"That."

"What?"

"Singing like that."

"Like what?"

She had to think about it for a second.

"Like you crazy."

Nice.

That same night we were watching "The Brady Bunch" and out of the blue she said, "He's my favorite." It was a scene with Greg and his mom.

"Who, Greg?"

"Yeah."

"Why is Greg your favorite?"

She paused a second, then took her thumb out of her mouth. That's when you knew something profound was coming.

"His hair is crazy."

So I guess crazy was the word for that week.

Anyhoo, here's the song we were listening to this morning when she told me to STFU.
