2008 Movie Lists Of The Day

From Premiere.com, which calls this "The Best, Worst and Everything In-Between Movies of 2008"

I saw a grand total of two movies that appear on any of these lists: Kung Fu Panda and Quantum Of Solace, and I liked the panda better than Bond.

To the "movies I wish I could un-see" list I would add Stepbrothers. A huge disappointment, just like almost every Will Ferrell movie. Why do I expect anything more????

Reenie said...

I've been told that Slumdog Millionaire is an amazing movie. Like the list indicated, I'm waiting for Netfkix.

Reenie, I saw SM over the holiday and it was pretty darn good. Initially I was wondering where it was all headed, but I thought it was a great story and interesting how it was told.

You saw one more than I did, Cary.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the only one that I saw of these--and yes, it was a big disappointment.

I saw The Dark Night last night.
It is the best movie I've seen in a long time.
MSOD
Looks like Gumby dyed his hair just before he got arrested.

Engrish Pic.
I can usually figure out what they are trying to say but this one.....
ya got me. I really hope it's not literal. They're endangered, don't ya know?

I haven't seen Dark Knight yet but I really want to.

MSOD?

Slumdog Millionare was great.

MSOD=Mug Shot Of the Day
(slaps Cary)

You forgot the T, brother.

MSOTD.

Thank you. That is all.

Thanks for the feedback. And instead of ordering the movie from Netfkix, I'll probably use Netflix. :)

didn't juno come out this year? i really liked it.

Juno? No, I dunno, either.

Rambo? Really?

I did see Frost/Nixon and Slumdog Millionaire over the holidays (when my sister let me out of the basement), and they were pretty good.

I enjoyed Quantum of Solace; what it lacked in plot, it made up for in action.

I was disappointed in Wall-E.

21 was interesting, for personal reasons, except for the last bit.

I must really be easily entertained. I like the Love Guru and The Happening. Oh well.

voronya said...

uhm, why didnt hellboy 2 and burn after reading make it on ANY of these lists?

SupremeAntBee said...

No wonder I haven't read EW in decades. Their taste in movies is repugnant!

SupremeAntBee said...

Ummmm, make that Premiere, and that would be decade, not decades, as far as not reading them.

Throw my hat in the ring of mounting praise (is that even a metaphor?) for Slumdog Millionaire - Danny Boyce directed (Trainspotting), and consistently walks the fine line of a "kid rises from poverty to win the prize and get the girl" that could either get too preachy or too corny. Plays both angles very well - if it's still playing in that little independent theater in the next town, turn off your computer and go! Now!!

I saw "Milk" the other night, and it was excellent. It's one that probably would be just as on DVD, though. We most went because my husband is kind of a political geek and had read the book.

I would name "Mamma Mia" The Most Enjoyable Movie You Knew Was Terrible As You Watched It. I saw it in the theater 3 times and now own it on DVD and have loved it every time I've watched in spite of shaking my head at how little sense it makes. And I'm not really one for chick flicks, either. I thought the Sex in the City movie was lame. Damn that catchy ABBA music!

The recent X-Files movie is only a franchise killer if you can re-kill something that's already been dead for many years. I like the show, but if anyone can explain to me why anyone felt the need to make this movie a decade after everyone stopped caring, I would very much appreciate it...

I just saw Quantum of Solace and thought it was terrible. Not only was there a lack of plot, there were major continuity mistakes. As an action flick it was ok, but whoever made it took away all of the wit, elegance and charm of James Bond and made just another shoot em up movie

samsmama said...

"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" was terrible!

"21" was great!

"Mamma Mia", haven't seen it, but have seen the live musical a few times. Yes, the plot is iffy. But the music sucks you in. Catchy, indeed!

One more ad for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and I'm going to vomit. So he ages backwards? I think that's been done. It was called "Mork & Mindy".

I can't believe Cloverfield made it onto any list bearing the descriptor "good"; it would be #1 on my list "Movies I wish I could unsee". Definitely one of the worst fucking movies I've seen in my life.

The Batman movie was okay...not great - Heath Ledger was the best part of it, fo' sho'.

Oddly, we haven't seen almost any of the other movies listed there (and definitely not any on the 'unsee' list). I guess movies like "No Country for Old Men", "There Will Be Blood", and "Juno" were on last years' recommended list - we made a point of seeing those, and they didn't disappoint!

Prince Caspian a franchise-killer? How so, I wonder? I didn't think it was bad, and it IS based on a book series, so it's not as though it was some ill-advised, random and pointless addition to the series (Chris Carter, I'm looking at you). I mean, what happened in the movie is what happens in the book (more or less) so....I don't quite grasp how that kills the franchise. Eh. Whatever.

I liked 21 but only because I want to boink Jim Sturgess.

Saw Hancock and agree it belongs on the "good movies that aren't on any best lists" list.

And, OMG, I am SO FUCKING TIRED of hearing about Tropic Thunder. That shit was NOT FUNNY. I just do not get all the Tropic Thunder love. Booooring and lame, IMO.

I loved Speed Racer!

It was just like the (old) tv show. Bold & bright, confusing, cute racers - (RACER X!), and a plot no one would believe in.

Biggest Heartbreaker: "Indiana Jones & The Stupid Alien Plotline"

No Synechdoche, NY??? for shame...

Tracie - I'm with you on The X-Files movie. WTF? Next they'll do a "My Mother The Car" movie.

Samsmama - Mork & Mindy. HA HA! Yeah, no interest in that shit, either, sorry. Three hours of Gump Grows Young? No thanks.

Mary - you're the second person in two days who has said that Tropic Thunder isn't funny at all. Others have told me how hilarious it is. I"ll have to rent it just to see who's right. It didn't look funny enough in trailers to pique my interest, but who knows.

I forgot that I saw Burn After Reading this year, too. I love the Coens, but that movie was underwhelming.

I think Prince Caspian was a great movie. I like the Narnia movies and they tried a bit harder with the CGI in this one. I just wish at the end they would've shown the others that walked through the portal into the subway station when they got back. I'm curious to know when they fared...

Wow. I disagree with at least 50 % of those lists. Guess Premiere.com and I don't have the same taste.

For instance, I found Batman extremely disappointing- none of my expectations were met, and I was just bored out of my mind.

Same goes for Quantum of Solace (even the name is stupid- I say bring back Sean Connery or Roger Morre back as Bond! Even in their 70s they've more sex-appeal than Craig!) and Forgetting Sarah Marshall- that one was just crass. Typical Judd Apatow.

Oh, and I loved Horton Hears a Who.
