Some notable people who shook off their mortal coil this year. A lot of actors I grew up with are on this list, from things like Bond, The Munsters, Bewitched, Newhart, Match Game (3 staples from that show went down this year), and Evel Knievel, who was a god. We're getting old, 70s kids.
Yvonne de Carlo - actress ("The Munsters"). Natural causes, January 8.
Art Buchwald - humorist and newspaper columnist (The Washington Post). Kidney failure, January 17.
Sidney Sheldon - author, Broadway playwright and TV producer. Complications from pneumonia, January 30.
Anna Nicole Smith - actress, spokesmodel and former Playboy Playmate. Drug overdose, February 8.
Ernest and Julio Gallo - co-founders of the E.&J. Gallo Winery, both died in 2007. Julio died February 17, Ernest on March 6. (I could make a joke here, but it would just be crass Gallos' humor.)
Roscoe Lee Browne - deep-voiced character actor. Cancer, April 11.
Kurt Vonnegut - author, died April 11 of complications from head injuries suffered during a previous fall in his home.
Don Ho - Hawaiian singer ("Tiny Bubbles"). Heart failure, April 14.
Kitty Carlisle Hart - actress and TV personality. Heart failure, April 17.
Boris Yeltsin - first president of the post-Soviet Russian Federation. Heart failure on April 23.
Tom Poston - comedic character actor ("Newhart") died April 30 of respiratory failure.
Charles Nelson Reilly - TV comedian ("Match Game," etc.), of complications from pneumonia, May 25.
Liz Claiborne - fashion designer, died June 26 of a rare form of cancer that attacked the lining of her abdomen. She had fought the disease for ten years.
Joel Siegel - film critic, of colon cancer, June 29.
Lady Bird Johnson, wife of President Lyndon Johnson, of natural causes, July 11.
Tammy Faye Bakker Messner - talk-show host and former wife of disgraced televangelist, Jim Bakker. Colon cancer, July 20.
Ingmar Bergman - famed Swedish director died July 30 of undisclosed causes.
Merv Griffin - TV host, game show producer and entrepreneur. Prostate cancer, August 12.
Phil Rizzuto - legendary Yankee shortstop and broadcaster, of pneumonia, August 13.
Luciano Pavrotti - tenor. Pancreatic cancer, September 6.
Brett Somers - comedienne, game show panelist ("Match Game") and ex-wife of Jack Klugman. Stomach and colon cancer, September 15.
Alice Ghostley - Tony Award-winning actress ("Bewitched") died September 21 of colon cancer.
Lois Maxwell - actress (the original Miss Moneypenny in James Bond films), of colorectal cancer, September 29.
Deborah Kerr - actress (From Here To Eternity), died October 16 from the effects of Parkinson's disease. Kerr received six Oscar nominations for Best Actress during her lifetime, but never won.
Joey Bishop - actor/comedian and last surviving member of the Rat Pack, of natural causes, October 17.
Robert Goulet - singer and actor ("Camelot") died October 30 of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis while awaiting an emergency lung transplant.
Norman Mailer - author. Renal failure, November 10.
Dick Wilson - actor (Mr. Whipple on TV commercials for Charmin bathroom tissue). Natural causes, November 19.
Evel Knievel - motorcycle daredevil, of diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, November 30.
Ike Turner - musician and wife-beater, of emphysema, December 12.
Dan Fogelberg - singer/musician ("Leader Of The Band"), of prostate cancer, December 16.
