underdog is the bestes!
Yes indeedy. Wally Cox was a funny man and a good friend of Marilyn Monroe.
-and the great Mel Blanc as damn near every other cartoon voice you remember hearing.
Yep. His list would have taken up the entire post. I had forgotten that he was Barney Rubble.
I thought Jim Backus (Gulligan Island's Thurston Howell the third) was the voice of Mr. Magoo. Maybe Daws Butler did Magoo after Backus died?
Yes, that's right. My mistake. Butler did voices on the Magoo show but not Mr. Magoo himself.
Good catch. Thanks.
Great list. I had no idea Bea Benaderet (of Petticoat Junction) voiced Betty Rubble! I know you can't list them all, but Hank Azaria also does Moe, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Cletus and Dr. Nick Riviera in addition to Apu.
Yes, isn't that crazy about Bea? One of those things I knew once before but lost in the slow Nutra-Sweet destruction of my brain.
I loved Petticoat Junction as a kid... the three daughters bathing (? skinny dipping?) in the big water barrel always stirred up some nice, yet confusing, sensations in my pre-pubescent loins.
Good info re: Hank, and right you are. In fact, most of the folks here do numerous voices.. but the damn Daws Butler thing took me so long (I suck at Photoshop), I said screw that! =)
thanks
Great post!
Tom Kenney does a lot of voices, from what I've heard. He is also an incredible comedian and was on Mr. Show with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross. ...Which, BTW, you have to see. It is a hilarious show.
Thanks, Baroness. There are many many more, of course, including two LOTD readers, Tom Kane and Vanessa Marshall.
Yeardly Smith even LOOKS like Lisa Simpson a little.
You forgot one of the greats, June Foray, who was the voice of both Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Natasha.
One of them is wrong. Jim Backus did Mr. Magoo...
Backus was the original Magoo but Butler took over the role after Backus died.
One of my buds had some friends over, they said "Hey doesn't Mike Judge live here (Austin)? I doubt that his number is still available but,it was back then. They looked it up called him and he indulged them to the point he not only did all their favorite voices on the phone but took their cell numbers and called leaving personal messages. Pretty cool I thought.
